is the Luxif still the way to go?

I am thinking of picking one up for travel tripod

40D
Battery Grip
Potentially a 70-200L IS f4 on it...

Will weight be an issue?
 
you bet it is. weight is not an issue, although you might want to nix the batter grip. i have used a 5d with 70-200 f/4 and had no problems.

I would agree about the weight based on the specs. Now if you had a 1D series or a D2/3 plus a 70-200/2.8 IS/VR lens or more on it......that would be a different story.
