I think that's a nictitating membrane and not cataracts. ; The membrane protects and moistens the eye while maintaining some visibility.
 
interesting Michael.I knew peregrines had it for protecting there ; eyes at the high speeds they go but never would have thought of that on roosters

I think it is chrome and is part of his battle gear... ; I mean really, look at that menacing stare with the bright red comb and hrome eyes. ; That would scare any opponent.

ain't that the truth, anyone that's ever had a rooster or two around the barnyard knows how just how mean and nasty they can be
