Last June we were lucky enough to visit not too long after a new baby Gorilla had joined the exhibit. ; Even luckier, mom had decided to lie down right against the viewing glass with baby lying on its back next to her, so we all got a lovely up-close view of the baby. ; Of course, the photography was a bit challenged as always - shooting in the low light under the shade there, and shooting through several-inch-thick, finger smudged glass! ; But the little guy was so cute, I had to do it (800 pixel version hotlinked, 1024x version linked below each):

Thanks...he/she/it was very adorable - I couldn't figure out if it was just cute because it was cute, or if it was so ugly it was cute. ; But one thing for sure...that baby was acting EXACTLY like a human baby - the expressions, the movement, sucking the thumb, efforts to walk...all the same!

Nice work Justin!

I'll take finger smudged glass any day over the leaf pattern frosted film they installed on the primate enclosures at the National Zoo
