Honestly don't know because I've never needed to change battery regardless the number of shots, with or without flash for a full-day session (I use the battery grip with two batteries). Furthermore, at the end of each day, I recharge all of my batteries.
The most shots taken for each day is about 1,200 with IS always on, LCD review "on" and constant chimping.

I'll have to second Kelly's response. Except I can't be that dramatic.. I've never run out of power from a good battery (my original D-reb battery failed after around two years, to the point where it would struggle to take maybe 100 shots), but I can't say I've ever used as much power as Kelly's description. I have no IS lenses, I don't use the review function, and I rarely use the color LCD at all.
I looked through my archives, and in general the most I've found for a day is around 500 shots. So I haven't come close. I know a single battery is supposed to be good for a thousand or more, although I don't know whether that was with or without LCD review and such.

Okay, so I wasn't too wierd....
I think I got about 1900 out of mine before I had to change it. IS on, 2 sec LCD review, not much chimping, almost no flash.
A long cry from the D30. Sheesh. I remember when the batteries had gone past their useful life. Think I got 12 shots from a full battery. At Legoland.

I usually don't have LCD review turned on, but I do review my pics periodically.
I never ran the battery out until one day at MouseFest when I increased the sleep mode time from 4 minutes to 8 minutes; after that, the battery ran out after only 90 pics! Needless to say, I decreased that sleep mode time as soon as I got a fresh battery into the camera.

I know I've gotten as many as 900 with a fair amount of review, flash and IS at home, but in warmer climes, I've gotten about 1200 (Mexico) in the past. If I have no other reason to be gaga over the move to SLR this past year, it's that, before I maybe got 250 from my old Sony P&S.
