Ideal zoom lenses for 1DsMKII?

Say you own a Canon 1DsMKII (or 5D, it doesn't matter) and you're about to get paid to do wedding photography. Which zoom lenses would you buy? Is there anything in the quality range of 17-55 f/2.8 EF-S IS? I have the 24-105 f/4L IS, but then again it's f/4 and IMO not as sharp as the 17-55 f/2.8 IS EF-S.

any suggestion is appreciated.

PS: a fixed lens is a no-no for my style of wedding shots. Furthermore, my experience with 5D w/ 24-105 f/4L IS for weddings is that the lens is great in terms of range but f/4 is too slow for several key shots I need to take.

are you interested in an excellent condition 28-70 L, f2.8? tim can verify condition of this lens, he just used it for a few days at mousefest, ideal wedding lens and the only reason i'm selling it is because i have the much lighter tamron 28-75 2.8 and i find attending weddings at the rate of 1-2 a year as a family member i really don't need the heavy artillery. i ain't getting paid so i get what i get, what i miss, oh well get that from the paid guy,

let me play around with the 28-70 range on my 24-105. If the range is adequate, then I may be interested with it. Does the 28-70 equipped with IS?

Kelly, I've seen this issue on dpreview lately.

Canon doesn't have anything close to the L quality non-L EF-S lens with IS and a 2.8 aperture for full frame.

You know rumors spread like wildfire, like a 24-70/2.8L IS due with the 3D and 40D at PIMA 2007. Let's look at Nikon, shall we - hmm, no 2.8 VR zooms on that spectrum either.



With that being said the 24-70/28-70/28-80 may be useful, but I know the 28-80 wasn't fixed at 2.8 for the early model. I've used the 28-70 before, happy with the results.

of course that was back in the age of film.

Thanks guys.

since I won't be needing the lens until sometime in June next year, I think I'll just wait until the new announcement from Canon. Hopefully by then there will be f/2.8 with IS. L or non-L.

you have to go high end

24-70/2.8
70-200/2.8


unless you wanted to go prime, then its

24 or 35/1.4
50/1.4 or 85/1.2
200/2.8 or 135/2
 
70-200 f/2.8 IS: I already have and that's my walkaround lens.
24-70: the range is too short, unfortunately.

Even if they have to make it big and heavy, I'm hoping for a 24-105 f/2.8L IS from Canon.
