Filters anyone?

Since getting my Nikon D70, I've replaced all my lenses which, of course, don't have filter ring sizes that went with my old lenses. ::)

These are all Nikon: 50mm D, 18-70mm DX and an 80-200mm D. The 18-70 has a 67mmm filter thread while the other two have 52mm.

The 18-70 is the lens that is on the camera 90% of the time. The 50mm is new and I haven't used it much except for low light indoor situations. The 80-200 is for places like AK or other outdoor places or events where I need the added reach.

Looking for any recommendations on what you have found most useful when it comes to filters. Thanks!

i only ever use multicoated uv filters on the front of my lenses. they do nothing except protect the front element. would rather wreck a $50 filter than a $x000 lens.

The only filter I ever use on is a circular polarizing filter, which is great for very bright scenes and nature landscapes. Really brings out greens and blues. I imagine it would be fabulous for water shots at Disney, especially in the Seven Seas Lagoon and around the Boardwalk ... but I didn't have it (or a DSLR) last time I was there. Eager to try it out on the next trip though.

Ditto the circular polarizer; not using it as much as before. Will be using a ND filter more often now. Maybe the grad ND filter from Cokin too.

Most filters aren't necessary nowadays.

i just purchased a cokin nd filter set...having never used it before i wonder if anyone can tell me if i can just use a step up ring in place of the adapter....the set is on backorder, i want it for vacation in a few weeks and so can't really wait till it comes to find out..but figure if i can use the assortment of step up rings i could save some $$$$$. if not i need to order the adapters...thanks for any tips and not trying to derail so hope this isn't to ot...

If it's the P series, you will need an adapter. it's different than a regular step up ring.
