Exposure Compensation

I have been playing around a little with this with little luck. ; Can I use this to help make a dark shot a little less dark? ;

yes, thats what it is for. ; It usually can be adjusted in 1/3 of a stop increments either with more exposure or less exposure depending upon if you want the shot lighter or darker.
