Then you have seen this guy already, Howie. But, for the others who haven't, check out this metal sculpture on the Ni-Mo building.

Wow, that is striking. Why is it that so many of the things we admire are from the past. Have we lost the vision or drive to create these things today?

That is a very good question. ; Except for Disney, there is not much in the way of creative architectural design these days in the US. ; I see it in other countries. ; Anyone care to show us some recent buildings which are unique. ; Most new buildings I see go up are boring office types. ; Funny thing is they are usually built right next door to an empty building which looks just like it. ; ::)

before casinos in AC the grand hotels that stood were terrific examples of art deco. now everything is the same old glass and steel and flashy lights. it is almost like they forgot how to design a real piece of art
would like to see a b and w of that building also Scott. give it that 30's film look

I agree, a lot of lighting but no style these days. ; I need to photograph the building during the day. ; Iffy weather this weekend might make for good moody shots of the place. ; B&W would translate well that way, too.

I love old architecture from all centuries, from castles to art deco, but I also have a great appreciation for some amazing modern architecture...you're right that much of it is in other parts of the world, from the amazing limitless-budget stuff in Qatar, Bahrain, and U.A.E, as well as China's boom megopolises, to London and Paris, Berlin and Malmo. ; The Sphere, the Gerkhin, the Reichstag, and so on.

But that's not to say the U.S. doesn't have some awesome architecture still going on. ; I am finding many modern U.S. buildings quite amazing to look at, beautiful, and would love to photograph them. ; Check out the Hearst Tower in New York, 1111 Lincoln Road in Miami, the Aqua building in Chicago, the chapel of the US Air Force Academy in Colorado, and the Disney Concert Hall in Anaheim, to name a few.

Speaking of old architecture...this mansion has been deserted for years. ; I drive past it every day on my way to work.

Thanks, John and Howie! ; Going back to Montezuma NWR this Friday for a whole day of shooting from dawn to dusk. Got to get in some practice before I come down to Forsythe in June. ; So far the weather forecast is looking great.

I was walking Suzy and came upon this and after seeing your photo Scott I thought I would take a stab at some close ups as I have never really spent any time trying it. I used the 50 1.8 with a 2x close up filter. I never realized how shallow the DOF is with the close up filters but now I want to experiment more.
this was at f 3.2 on the D7000
