Minolta Maxxum 50mm f/1.7 AF Prime Lens

anyone here use this? It seems to get good reviews from what I have read. Do you think this would be a good lens for WDW (as a walk around or only indoor/low light) in addition to my 18-70 3.5-5.6 kit lens. We also want to get this to get better portriats of our baby (due in May). Would this work for all those? I"ve learned a lot in the last few weeks of research since we got our sony A100k DSLR, but there is so much i still do not understand.

I think it would be a good option for portraits and for indoor/low light. Once you've used it for a while, you will probably realize you need a wider lens for indoor low light use due to the crop factor on the lens.

Personally I'm intrigued to see what Sony announces for PMA in the next few weeks.

so it seems we are lone rangers when it comes to the Sony DSLR? Well maybe after we get back from our trip Jan 10-14 we can do the camera's capabilities some justice and share some quality pictures! Thanks for the input, we had no idea what we was getting into when we decided to go DSLR ;D Definitely have a lot to learn, and I think we have found the place to do so!!

Sony was able to jump into the dSLR foray with a decent amount of lenses out on the market, unlike Samsung, and Olympus/Panasonic...

I was surprised by the review of the A700 on dpreview, with the only major drawback of the new Sony/Nikon 12mp CMOS sensor being that Sony put NR on the chip. Rumors are that the Nikon (Sony) full frame chip will be put on the new Sony "pro" dSLR that is also rumored to be introduced at PMA 08. If you look at the new Sony lenses, you'll see that their 70-200/2.8 and 300/2.8 lenses are white like Canon's.

I'm intrigued with Sony's new offerings, and the new Nikons. Great time for new technology with an annoyed Canon user. My main body is going out for the recall repairs tomorrow, so at least I'll get it back for my next WDW trip.

Thinking more and more about full frame. The DOF advantages are worth the "loss" of telephoto reach. Besides, Sigma makes some decent lenses for the Sony/Minolta mount.
