I have a chance to pick up an older Mac G4 and was wondering what those of you Apple users thought.

Depends on what you want it for. That's from before Apple switched to the Intel processors, so with a the PowerPC CPU that slow, lots if not most new software probably won't even run.
 
Thanks Erich, I was looking for a way to start learning Aperture, but my brother-in-law said the same thing so I passed on it.
 
Actually, I'm surprised at how well Aperture runs on older Intel-based Apple hardware. I also have a 5 year old MacBook Pro laptop and have no problem with Aperture. Well, other than using up the HD space really fast. Sure, I can tell it's working hard, but it's still plenty fast enough to not even hesitate using it.
