Saturday night we were at the Magic Kingdom watching Spectromagic from just outside the firestation. As we were walking up Main Street, we were kind of following the parade. Great. An opportunity to get a few more shots right? WRONG! For some reason, the music sped up and the back half of the parade took off at lightning speed and the character had to run to catch up! We think maybe the Gargoyle had a tough time making it around the turn and then they had to speed up the rest of the parade behind it.

Goes right up there with my mom turning around during MVMCP parade last night having a reindeer staring at her! I need to get better about catching those kinds of moments.

We sat across from pecos bills for the first showing of spectro magic, and the hwole thing seemed to run smoothly. Didnt see anything of the sorts. Maybe it was just an error.

that is odd. i believe the whole thing runs on RF transmissions to computers in the floats so its weird that it would get out of sync like that.

I did ntoice that the Demon float seemed to stall or go REALLY slow around the corner. Im sure someone got fired the next day!

That would be bad. Heres a discussion that took place last Saturday night after the TMIP meet. My mom called and we decided that we would meet at the tree at around 7:15 - I missed the part where she said The tree at the American pavillion. So anyway, I get to the tree at the entrance at World Showcase...and no mom and dad. Here is the phone call that followed.

Me: Im at the tree.
Mom: So am I.
Me: I dont see you at the tree. You said meet you at the tree.
Mom: Yes the tree. At America.
Me: Oops. *click*

The moral of the story - if Disney outlawed cell phones I might still be sitting at the tree waiting for my parents. Although with the several inches of snow we got today - that might not be a bad thing!

You know, on a side note, the FCC has broken a 1930s era law that forbids the use of jammers inside the U.S. - for a situation here in TX. Ireland allows cell phone jammers in movie theatres....and while I know Disney is thinking about the cell phone fastpasses for the concierge level guests, I'll bet that Nintendo DS (or iPhones using WiFi) will get the first shot at mobile communications in the park....

Don't forget those other smart phones not bearing the mark of the fruit. I'd say or pocket pc devices that aren't even phones, but windows mobile seems to have become focused almost specifically on smart phones. That's mostly the only place you see it any more.

Years ago I had ideas for Disney to run a wireless network like that specifically to supply a few specialized services for park guests. I visualized, first and foremost, an interface that would let you get wait time info from wherever you were at. But from there the ideas got kind of vague. With any sort of interactive system, something where you could post things, you get the risk of people posting inappropriate stuff, so I figure it would mostly have to stay more traditional. One sided informational delivery, perhaps with a slight interactive component for something like making reservations.

I dunno, in the end maybe there isn't much call for this. But it'd give us geeks something more to do while waiting in lines. I'd like to see what they could do with it. It's the sort of thing I used to expect from Disney World, or more specifically Epcot. Portable data devices like these smartphones were the sci-fi dreams of yesteryear, but in science fiction they were used for more than checking email or listening to music.

Actually Disney has installed some of the transmitters in the parks, but it was using the DS system only. I know at DL they programmed it with the POTC:AWE DS game to allow you to download special items while at DL, but not sure where that went.
