Disney Cruise Line pulls Alaskan national park application

Disney Cruise Line withdrew an application for a permit to sail in Alaska's Glacier Bay National Park.

The news was included in a release from the park this afternoon announcing awards to multiple cruise lines that had been competing for the limited number sailing slots.

The permits cover sailing in Glacier Bay between 2010 and 2019.

UPDATE: Disney Cruise Line spokeswoman Rena Langley said the company pulled its application because "for now, Glacier Bay doesn't fit in our future itinerary plans."

But Langley said that doesn't necessarily rule Alaska out as a future cruise destination for Disney. "We're continuing to explore many future itinerary options and, certainly, Alaska remains on our radar."

We were talking to CM while aboard the Magic, and they were telling us there ships are not equipped for a trip to Alaska. ; They would need to do some changes while in dry dock before they could attempt this destination. ; No surprize they pulled there application. ; They have enough great itineraries already for the 2 exisitng ships and the 2 new ships coming in 2011.

I think there will be a lot of dissappointed cruisers! ; I will not be one of them! ;

We see enough of snow and ice!LOL

Agreed!
I'm positive the beauty of Alaska wilderness must be majestic, perhaps when we're older the DW and I will experience one of those northern.

But for now give me a wonderful warm Caribbean breeze and a double dip at Castaway Cay.

great pic!

my family cruised to Alaska last July onboard the Diamond Princess - it was great - 2 days sailing thru Glacier Bay and College Fjord. ; It's too bad Disney isn't going!
