D23 Shipping Charges

When D23 first started I went thought the process to join but when I was hit with the international shipping charges was taken back. $50 US I could understand that for Korea or Africa but I'm in Canada shipping is free to Buffalo but $50 to get it over the border! Needless to say I was pissed so I started a tirade of e-mails well there must have been many other Canadians with the same feelings as me Disney dropped the shipping charges by half to $24.95 I still think that's expensive for 4 magazines a paper certificate and membership card. I'm going to wait and see what the charter member "GIFT from the archives" is before I take the plunge to determine if the cost is worth it.
 
I think read on another board (DIS) that after the first D23 magazine issue, you will be able to buy them at the Canadian Disney stores. ; I'm not sure how much truth there is to that but its worth waiting.
 
Yeah... it really is nuts that we are considered "international" in the sme way as overseas countries.

It's very restrictive!!!!
 
I was shocked at the $50 US shipping cost to Canada :o but joined anyway (on the first day). ; Fools rush in maybe but I really wanted the magazine and to be in at the start of D23 in case it turns into something great. ; If it doesn't I won't renew. ; I hear the magazine is good and can not get it anywhere near me unless I order online somewhere.

I do wonder what the gift will be, and now I wonder if I can get a refund on the extra shipping cost I paid. ;
 
Holy smokes!

I've been humming and hawing over it, with a more definite line of thought leading to going to the expo but not joining the club. $125US for what amounts to a magazine subscription is straight out of the running. Sorry Disney.
 
So like I said in a previous post, I paid the $50 shipping charges for D23 membership. ; Then thanks to NorthernMouse and perhaps others, the shipping cost went down to about $25.

I just received a $25 gift certificate from D23 due to the reduced shipping cost! ; (Thanks NorthernMouse)

Still waiting for my membership package that they say has now been shipped.
 
Shipping charges from Disney have always been exorbitant I have never bought anything from Disney Shopping online because of the prices. I'm heading down to the Niagara area in a couple of weeks going to head over the border to pick up the magazine there. ;
 
So the surprise gifts have been sent out and I am underwhelmed... Even if they reduced the shipping and handling, it's still $100US for four issues of a magazine and a thing I wouldn't actually want to display in my home. Thanks but no thanks.
 
I just received the official membership card and the 'gift'... a 20 x 30 inch print of Mickey's 80th anniversary portrait: "Putting a Smile on the World".

There is background information with it. ; It is from the original 24 x 36 inch oil on canvas by Paul Felix. It says it "was printed in December 2008 as part of the Walt Disney Archives Collection and is the exclusive 2009 Charter Year collectible gift for members of D23" ; It goes on to say "This special fine art lithograph measures 20 x 30 inches. It is printed on archival 65# Cougar Natural Cover stock, with fade-resistant, oil-based process inks."

I could see myself paying quite a few dollars for this from a Disney store. ; I think I will have it framed. ; I like it!
 
It's cute enough by itself, but yeah, it's not something I would actually buy or display in my home. But then, I'm picky: the only attraction poster I've ever bought was the Mark Twain Riverboat because it fit so well with the Western Victorian theme of everything else in the room I put it in ^_^

If it was one of those gajillion dollar framed "prints" of leaves from Fantasia that they're selling, then they might have had me ^_~
