Canon issues service advisory on 5D Mk3

well at least mine has not shipped yet, i now have to rethink this, i may have to cancel the order until i find out about the fix, i am thinking that this is a quality control or design issue. qc can be remedied with service center repairs, a design flaw is a whole lot more problematic. i'm sure the other sites will be all over this. and it's good for me because not knowing where i stand in the line for delivery, i called b&h customer service last week and had a do not ship until 4/25 on my order. they actually hold the package for me, i do not lose my place in line. that's kind of nice. as i did not want a camera delivery attempted while i was in disney for a week.
 
I've had mine for about a week, so I have the option to return for full refund. ; I will wait and see what Canon plans. ; Happy with it thus far.
 
I was considering going for a 5d3 but I might very well go for the home run, if
I catch a few breaks along the way (1dx)
 
i just spent a little more time researching this issue, some folk shooting things like northern lights, and other dark stuff are not seeing any problems with the final images. i don't think i'll cancel the order, premature panic
 
Tim - I seriously considered the 1DX and had the money saved to buy it, but just couldn't justify the $3000+ added cost for what I would get out of it. This also allows me to buy some new lenses which I am lacking and some other things like a lighter tripod.


Gary - I lucked out with the purchase, been hounding a local shop where I bought my 40D, but they just were not getting anything in. Decided to make calls and found a kit with the 24-105 at Adorama and pulled the trigger. B&H and Amazon were all out.

I'm not that concerned with this issue, since I have been reading where it does not have a great impact. ; However, I do want Canon to deal with it and provide options to its customers. I'll be watching and waiting to see if their customer support for this camera matches the marketing of it.

What do you think Roger, is it worth sending it in for a tape job?
 
Probably - it will only help a resale value. ; I wonder if they will put a dot in the battery compartment like the 1DMk3 issue.
