    Depending on the scene, autofocus will still work just fine - though I'll tend to use spot focus when dealing with supershallow DOF...otherwise, I'll switch to manual as needed.

    Minolta 300mm F4 @ F4 - Northern harrier caught me taking its photo:

    Camera manuals are great for figuring stuff like this out. ; ;)

    LOL! ; I tried it in my classroom today but that only got me frustrated. ; Will be spending so time with the manual later today!

    That's why I like PDF copies of the manuals; they're a lot easier to search.

    Thanks- I have the AF light turned off also. ; I do use AF and just try to look for some contrast in the subject to lock on to- with af-s lenses you can always 'take over' though. ; Manual focus can be tuff- I just usually set the camera to around 10-15 ft and let the motion of the ride being the subject into focus. ; Seeing good enough is easier at night when your eyes are already dialated- most rides are not long enough for your eyes to fully adjust on a bright sunny day.

    OK, so now I learned how to shut of the auto focus assist light! ; I guess that means that I still need to learn about my camera before I talk to my wife about an upgrade. ; I still have so much to learn. ;

    Now I can try to get some dark ride photos next week without worrying about that pesky light, let my frustration with not getting it to focus begin!!

    I'm happy I just re-aquired one of my favorite little lenses- the Sigma 30/1.4-
    Here's an old shot to celebrate- @1.4 of course. ; 8)

    Looks like someone is getting ready to reenact a certain scene from Animal House...
