I had no problem with the 300 in the parks. The security checks were fun though, as the guards just smiled in disbelief and said nice gear. I did have several CM's come up to me in AK to ask about my gear during the parades. Most were genuinely interested, photo enthusiasts and all friendly. However, I could tell a few were trying to find out if I was a pro and I believe that Disney likes to have pro photogs escorted around. ; The CM's in the parades will definitely see you, play for the camera, and joke with you as well.
I can think of a few tips... Practice using the lens before you go in the parks, especially if you have never used large lenses like the 300 f/2.8. Find a good spot in the parks that will allow you to utilize the reach of the lens without intruding on other guest's personal space. Be prepared for gawkers and lots of curious questions. Find a backpack that is comfortable, easy to pack and stow quickly. If you need to, use a sturdy monopod for support. Because of the lens reach and limited working space, the parade floats will have you fighting to get decent shots of the CM's immediately behind them, before the next float comes along. Most importantly have fun, be patient and enjoy the results!

Next month I'll probably have sore arms from lugging this thing around: shuttle launch, Sun-n-Fun, and Disney.
