Hey everyone! I am sooo glad to find this site! I am a major Disney lover along with my entire family.
We're passholders and get up there whenever we can.
Finally got a trip planned for March 25-27th and I am so excited! First trip since I got my DSLR. ;D
Hope to be able to post lots and learn a bunch about settings for certain rides and events. Thanks!

Welcome to the boards!

Not sure if you were aware, but Nikon just released a 35/1.8 that will autofocus on your camera...great start for dark rides!

Ah, Pixelmania sounds like fun! Hope I can make it :)

Roger, are there any others lenses that you know of that are good for Nikon that have a zoom and work well with dimly lit pics like on dark rides?

Honestly, you'll want a fast lens for dark ride pics, which means that you'll need a maximum aperture of f1.4/1.8. And while you'll have more choices if you don't mind manually focusing, no camera manufacturer has a zoom faster than f/2, and most are only as fast as f/2.8. Nikon's 14-24 f/2.8 zoom lens is around $1600. The 24-70 f/2.8 is about the same $$.

Nikon also just released the 50/1.4G which will autofocus with your camera, but it's twice the price of the 35/1.8, and it would be about a 75mm lens on your camera, so the 35 is the best lens to start with for dark rides.

I'd agree with Roger on that one - a prime is the only way to go as far as getting a fast enough lens for the rides...and a 35mm F1.8 would be great.

I'm shooting with a 50mm F1.7 myself, and I wish I had a wider view - I'm hunting for something like the 35mm myself!
 
i hear ya! this stuff ain't cheap, for sure.
