So much for my willing to bet on them not splitting Canada and USA dates. :) This is great news for the race. But not great news for the family reunion we were planning to coincide with it. Too many kids and teachers in the family to do it other than in summer.

Don't cancel your plans yet. ; Nothing is carved in stone until the FIA puts down the chisel, probably late this year.

The Red Bull F1 demo car gets to drive around the track!

    ;D

(Not really at the site of the track, but the car was in town. ; Was going to go see it while they were filming a commercial, then Red Bull said the public wasn't going to be allowed near the streets, and turns out they did have a lot of the public there...oh well!)

Was that David Coulthard driving, or just someone in a replica helmet?

    Yes it was him driving!

Don't know when the commercial will start running here in the States though...

Wasn't he supposed to do a demo run in the city too? That'd be cool to see from up close.

Ehhh well he did BUT it wasn't for the public. ; Which is where the confusion set in and I didn't go see it.....

Word got out about the commercial shoot, people started making plans, and then Red Bull announced "THERE IS NO PUBLIC DEMO" and stated that the public wasn't really welcome, and that they were going to cancel the whole thing.

Commercial got shot and there were members of the public watching...sheesh.

Oh man do I miss that sound. At Indy when the whole field passed by, the sound bounced around between the grandstands on the main straight. You could feel as well as hear it.

This is slightly off topic, but then again maybe it's not. ; I just saw the documentary Senna and really enjoyed it. ; There is a lot of footage that I don't remember seeing. ; Check it out if it comes to an art theater near you, or wait for the DVD.

I propose that Pixelmania 2012 be held in Austin on November 16-18. ; There appear to be three Disney stores in the area. :)

LOL! I wonder what it would cost to have a TMIP sticker on someone's side pod? Hey Tim, it's time to start advertising. :D

I think we should see if we can get media credentials for the NJ race. ; :)

    Re: F1 in the U.S. forget 2012???

FWIW it appears that the Jersey Grand Prix *may* kill the Austin race. ; But the whole Jersey race is itself odd because it's a road race so the tire issue will be there kind of like Indy....

    But anyway:

The State of Texas has expressed doubts that they will pay the $25mil they promised to the track developers since the agreement was for an exclusive with F1 in the U.S.

Bernie then "called the note" on the track developers, he wants his money ($25mil) asap or Austin is removed from the 2012 schedule

The track developers have now ceased all construction on the track.

Here's to hoping that saner minds prevail but I think there is a good shot this whole thing goes down in flames. ; Which is really sad because it's not like the track hadn't started yet; in a way the majority of the hard work was done....

That's really too bad. ; This country is big enough for two races - it's happened before.

But then, all true F1 fans know it's really a political competition with a little racing thrown in for variety. :)

As soon as I heard Bernie begin to talk about Austin doubts, I wondered what he's trying to pull now. Even seemingly off the cuff remarks by him are part of some sort of scheme. He cares nothing for the racing, only his wallet. Country still on the verge of civil war? Sure, we'll still come as long as we get paid.

After much huffing and puffing Austin is still on the 2012 calendar, this time the final one.
