Dawn Patrol Rendezvous

Nieuport 11s were a very popular plane at Dayton in 2018. This one is painted for the Lafayette Escadrille, a squadron of the French Air Service populated by American pilots who went to fight in a war that the Unites States had not yet entered.

I love the things I learn when researching these airplanes. For example, this replica carries the designation Fok F.1 102/17. The actual plane was one of two pre-production Fokker F.I triplanes, predecessor to the famous Dr.I. It was flown by the Red Baron in early September 1917. Over the next couple of days he shot down two enemy planes. The plane was shot down on September 15 while being flown by German ace Kurt Wolff.
