OK... If I must ; 1. What's your first name? Anne-Marie 2. Do you have a nickname? Nope ... although my husband may have a few choice ones ; ;D ... perhaps Disney anal pre-planner would fit 3. What Province do you live in? Ontario 4. How did you find the DisneyMagic.ca forums? A little birdy mentioned it ... that and the DIS-cussion board that shouldn't be named! 5. Age (or age range)? 35 6. Marital status? Yup 7. Occupation? Stay-at-home Mommy ... many moons ago I was an editor, putting my anal, detail-oriented nature to good use (don't hold it against me - I'll still have lots of typos!) 8. Favorite food? chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate 9. What vehicle do you have? minivan - I also sideline as a soccer mom 10. Which WDW park is your favorite? Magic Kingdom 11. Who is your favorite character in a WDW attraction? My eldest Daughter loves Tinkerbell, the youngest goes for the princesses and Stitch (What a combo!) ... I used to prefer Eeyore in my younger years, but I'm a much happier person now so I'll say I'm a traditionalist and I prefer good old Mickey. 12. How often do you take a trip to WDW? Has started to become every 18 mths - last trip was DLR. The time in between is spent planning and researching ... ad nauseum. 13. Explain your user name/how you came up with it. My initials ... same as on another board. That way I won't forget my user name to login 14. How long have you been a Disney addict? My parents took me to WDW while I was in diapers. We can blame it all on them!
Welcome to the community amw. ; Love your nickname that your husband gives you ; I would love to be a pre planner, but Sean won't allow it. ; Our first trip I tried to plan and it failed miserably. ; Now when we try to plan anything it is pretty impossible to keep to the plan.
LOL! That's the nickname I give to myself! ; I'm not all that bad during the actual trip. I'm not a commando type at all. I'm the type that gets to the park early, and when it stops being fun, we leave. ; I'm just very detail-oriented, so I know all the schedules 6 months out, know all the menus, keep abreast of the latest info... basically a know-it-all ; :
How can you plan Disney? Its something I can't do. We go and see what's going on and what kind of day it is and how we feel and then go do something. Minnie tried to plan Disney on her first trip but when she got there is realized you can't plan it. We tried to do it again for Mousefest and that didn't work either
Well... it's basically just a list of parks & their hours ... staying away from the parks that have Magic Hours (because we don't stay onsite)... and having a rough idea of which park I'd like to do on what day. Also keeping track of any special events that may affect attendance (like Pirate/Princess parties, or special weekend events at the Studios). We tend to go for 10 days, and only go to the park for 6 so there's lots of flexibility in terms of weather changes, or if there's a park that the girls want to go back to, or if we need to bail early. In the past we've gone during off-peak seasons so there's some planning involved to make sure the parades/fireworks are on evenings you'll be at the park. That's why it's not a commando thing for me. It's more of a best case scenario thing. I also have a general idea of which area of the park (or ride) you want to begin with ... that's planning too. Trust me, I'm not a "touring plan" girl ... I'm too systematic for that ;
Hi amw - Have you dug out yet?! ; Our neighbours missed the storm they are in Florida (and not going to Disney - what's up with that??)We are starting to really get excited about our upcoming trip to Disneyland. ; I am packed, even though we aren't leaving for weeks. ; Do you have any advice on must see attractions and/or things that can be missed if we run out of time? ; This will be our first trip to Disneyland. ; I am really interested to experience the differences between Disneyland and Disney World.
Hey Alex, Yes, we're dug out but my double-car driveway is now a single one at the entrance ; ;D Our street hasn't been plowed yet (or the sidewalks) and I'm dreading the huge pile that will be left by the plow ... if it ever comes. I can't imagine the floods that are going to come when this all melts! I understand that your trip will be kid-less. My experiences will be skewed since we toured when the girls were 7 and 5. I would definitely not skip ANY of the attractions in Fantasyland as most are superior, and make sure to visit Toontown. Any of the rides you can't find in WDW should not be missed including the Matterhorn and Indiana Jones. I really enjoyed Peter Pan, It's a Small World, Thunder Run, and Pirates of C as far superior there. The Alladin play at DCL is not-to-be missed, and I thought the Monsters Inc ride was cute too. When we went, the Subs were not yet opened and Fantasmic was "dark". They were supposed to be building a Pirate Island on Tom Sawyer's Island .. not sure if that happened. Miceage usually has the latest pics of goings on there. Can't help you with adult restaurants as we mostly did CS or character meals. There was a more adult eating area at DCL ... wine tasting and bread sampling. I did a trip report last year. I'm going to post it under its own "Disneyland" thread so maybe others can comment too.
