Did my lens die?

Ok, not sure what happened. ; I was taking pics indoor at a church a couple weeks ago and everything was going fine. ; After about an hour or so of shooting, ; the auto-focus stopped working and when I look through the eye piece, everything looks super dark and the shots do too...

Any thoughts or ideas of what may be wrong?

    Thanks

since looking through the eyepiece is so dark, is it possible that the aperture blades are stuck closed.

I had a smiliar experience this summer, when every shot was totally white, and the camera was shooting at super fast shutter speed, but I turned off the camera, removed and reinstalled the lens, and the problem went away and has never come back.

I think Craig called it; the aperture blades are stuck stopped down. ; Which lens manufacturer? ; It could be a simple or expensive fix.

I'd try cleaning the lens contacts and reattaching the lens with the camera off and then turn it on...it may reset the lens.
