Wishes at the Magic Kingdom

Discussion in 'The Magic Kingdom Photos' started by PrincessFortheDay, Jun 8, 2007.

  1. This was taken from The Noodle Station pavilion the other night. If anyone's looking for a great place to shoot during the fireworks-this is one of them! And if you get there early enough, you can sit at one of the tables and no one's head will be in your shot! :D

Also, if you're looking to find Tinker Bell, she flies right over the noodle station during the show and she will smile right at you.

Nice shot! I love to sit there for wishes and have taken many great photos from that spot!

    Nice shot!

I only got to Town Square during my last trip. Took too long to get from MGM, I meant Pixar Studios.

I actually did the Noodle Station during my last trip. It's nice to have a chair to sit in while you are waiting! If only the angle was better....

That's cool Roger. I like the darkness of the castle and sky and how bright the fireworks are. Good job.

I like the angle, Roger. What was your exposure?

Scott, I'll have to look it up at home. Something (i think it's my watermark software) is stripping the EXIF. But I think it was around f/22 and either 4 or 6 secs, ISO 200, HTP on. I remember stopping down for the finale.

Can't wait to see how D-lighting will handle something like that.

Did you get Capture NX with your D300? It has D-Lighting, although from what I have read, it's not the same as the in-camera D-Lighting. ::) You are probably very close to your exposure estimate there, too.

Yes indeed - great shots guys. The Tomorrowland Terrace area is always a favorite of mine for watching and photographing the fireworks shows. Though true that the slightly askewed angle aren't as nice as the staight-ahead shots, the ability to grab a soda, grab a seat and table, lay your camera bag on the table, set up your tripod along the rail, and relax in a chair with noone impeding your view...makes up for it in spades for me!

While up there for Mousefest, I shot wishes from that very location, from a table right on the corner on the lake:

It's also a nice place for pretty static shots of the castle at night, where you can always set up a tripod for longer exposures without having to worry about people walking in front of your shot:

Thanks for plugging my spot! In fact, next Mousefest, when Tim's giving the talk on Photo 101 or Night photography, maybe we could stake out the lakefront of the terrace for everyone to set up tripods and shoot the show from there. :)

Scott, I'll hopefully be able to answer your first question tomorrow. I haven't heard that they are not including a serial # for it anymore. But hopefully there will be some kind of adjustment in the RAW file with D-lighting, as I would prefer to use A2 or maybe even Bibble. Nikon hasn't fully supported Capture NX with Leopard yet. But I may give it a whirl just the same. Canon's HTP does affect the RAW file, and I believe Sony's does as well, so we'll see. I'm reading mixed reports - but it was the same with Canon's at first too.

Nice work guys. Those photos are great!

Roger, you should give NX a try. The U-Point technology is great. Also, check the custom setting f9 [No Memory Card] on your D300. Scott Kelby posted on his blog a while back that the D300 ships with the factory default set to "enable release" which allows you to take photos without a memory card in the camera. With the release enabled, the camera will take the picture, the picture will show up on the LCD and then vanish into thin air and you won't know it until you realize that there's no card in the camera. Here's the link

I was sure to change that setting as soon as I got my camera. Off topic but I picked up two 2 gig cards yesterday so I can shoot more RAW pictures instead of like fifty or whatever it was before.

Thanks for the tip Mike. I remember one day when I was trying to take pics of Bush 41 (okay I pressed the shutter release and thought I was advancing the film a lot), got home, and realized that I hadn't loaded the film correctly in the FtB so it never grabbed it. oops!

You're welcome Roger. I've done the same thing with film cameras. One time I was in a hurry and grabbed the wrong camera body as I ran out the door. I got up to about 40 pictures on the camera and thought to myself that I was getting an awful lot of pictures on this roll and then realized that the camera had no film in it... the film was in the other body. That was the last time I did that!

That's bad. I couldn't imagine how frustrated I would be.

Okay it was actually ISO 100, f/20, 4 secs. cropped about 3/8 reduction. I did bump exposure pp to 1.66, recovery 1.5, and shadows to 22.
    WB as shot.

I love these shots. I can't wait to get back to the park with my tripod that I finally got. I am really looking forward to playing with it during the fireworks!

Great Jeff - I really like that third shot! Never quite had the opportunity to catch the castle darkened and silhouetted against the fireworks like that. I'll have to look for that moment. Nice, crisp shots across the board, looks like a pretty decent vantage point too!

Very nice Jeff. I'm loving all that detail, especially the first and the second. I like the first because of those somewhat curious trails that branch like lightning, and the second for the fine feathering effect of all of the little streaks of light coming off the trails.
