When the American economy turns south, U.S. travel companies look north. Granted, our economy is shaky, too. But we're still travelling, and the Americans are welcoming us with open arms and lots of deals.

First up: Seabourn's Canadian Resident Promotion, available on select itineraries from eight to 20 days in duration. It's not often that Seabourn's pricing dips below $4,000 (U.S.) for a week-long cruise – this is an upscale product on luxury 208-passenger ships.

With this new offer, eight-day sailings from Hong Kong to Shanghai are priced at $2,999 per person (down from a brochure price of $6,185), while 14-day Panama Canal itineraries are $3,999 (down from $8,745).

Applicable departures are available from early January through the end of March. Prices include oceanview suite accommodation, dining, all drinks onboard and gratuities. See www.seabourn.com or call 1-800-929-9391.

Vermont ski sale: Smugglers' Notch Resort's Club Smugglers' Advantage Package comes with a special 15 per cent discount for Canadians.

Reservations must be made by Dec. 15 to qualify. The package includes mountainside condo accommodation, daily lift tickets for all three mountains, and an all-day ski or snowboard camp for kids under 5. For a family of four, the lead-in price for a four-night visit is about $1,591 (U.S.). For details see www.smuggs.com or call 1-800-451-8752.

Disney deals: Disney Cruise Line is making waves with exclusive discounts just for Canadians. Cruise-only rates for four-night Bahamas itineraries start at $499 (U.S.) per person, for most sail dates Feb. 8 to March 8 and March 22 to 29. The lead-in for seven-night Caribbean sailings is $849, on most sail dates Jan. 31 to March 7 and March 21 to 28.

Proof of Canadian residency is required at check-in at the pier. See www.disneycruise.com or call 1-888-325-2500 and ask for booking code `CAN'.

Best Buy of the Week: This deal isn't just for Canadians, but it certainly appeals to our adventurous nature. In anticipation of this week's movie release of Australia, Qantas Vacations has discounted its Outback Airpass to $1,199 (U.S.) per person, a savings of up to $400 per couple. Travel is round-trip from L.A., San Francisco or Honolulu and includes three flights within Australia. See www.qantasvacations.com or call 1-866-914-4359.

These sound like some amazing deals, but with dollar in the state its in any discounts given to us by the resorts is swallowed up in the exchange rate. ; Now if our dollar go up as fast as it went down we'd be in fantastic shape!!!!
