A different perspective of the Hollywood Tower Hotel...this was precisely the view of it from my water-view room at the Boardwalk vacation club resort. On a gorgeous, cool night, just after sunset, the sky colors were gorgeous, and the tower looming over the treeline made an interesting contrast. Here's the full wide view from my balcony - the tree to the right is just outside my balcony with the Swan hotel behind it, the Boardwalk's quiet pool area can be seen in the foreground below, and the river from Epcot to MGM/HS runs through the shot: Here's a slightly closer view, concentrating on the Hollywood Studios area: Zoomed in for a close-up shot - I like the way the purple lighting stands out against the orange of the sky: Maybe someone knows...based on my perspective from the Boardwalk hotel...looking down the river towards Hollywood Studios...what buildings are those in the foreground? I can't quite figure out the angle and what those buildings are: And for the close, just a little dusk sky shot of the tree in front of my balcony - which I thought looked nice silhouetted against the layered sky colors: Comments, questions, critique always welcomed.
The foreground building is part of the ToT. It's where the 5th Dimension is, along with the other ride mechanics. I don't know about the light though. Lemme see if I have a pic during the daytime.
Here you go, from 1996: <img src="http://www.themeparkphotos.us/cpg140/albums/uploads/061007/WDWJan9642a.jpg" /> Looks like the profile matches.
Yep...that looks like it! From as far away as my room at Boardwalk was, it was hard to tell. I was thinking it might have been one of the buildings along the main street as you come in...but the perspective didn't seem right. That explains what the building is...but now we have to figure out if the light is revealing a manned room or if it's just on for effect. Thanks for the additional angles!
this should help shed some light on the discussion.... no pun intended. view from our room in the swan, 12/2004.
And that darned light is still on! Nice one Tim...the higher perspective really helps, because you're shooting from nearly the same direction but higher over the trees. I wonder if there is some hidden storyline with that light. Only one, high up, always on. Or is it just some kind of control room? The mystery continues!
That light has been on since the ToT came online. I often wondered if it was part of the storyline but don't recall it being seen or mentioned in the pre-show or in the movie. We need to ask that Disney archivist this question.
