Yesterday, the weather was practically perfect, especially considering our flooding rains today. There were quite a few very young toads in our yard. [attachimg=1] And to try and give you the scale: [attachimg=2] ; Yes that's an ant in the picture. ; This toad was probably no bigger than an SD card. ; (This shot the toad was jumping around and I couldn't get a better shot off) All with the 35/3.5 Zuiko Macro, handheld. AW...you got those cute widdle toads. ; Our toads have anchor tattoos on their arm, drink beer, have 5-o'clock shadows, and could probably arm-wrestle you and win. ; (if you don't know Florida's toads...look up "bufo marinus"...otherwise known as Giant Toad. ; And that is not just a name!).
I see those are considered invasive in your neck of the woods; but are technically from round these parts. Not sure who would win in a fight between one of them and a horned frog, but I guess it would depend if someone from Texas A&M is nearby.[nb]Unless they're busy making a sundial in a cave. ; ; (j/k. ; Gig Em! ; Hook Em Horns! Saw 'em off! ; Hey, I'm a Terrapin, back off![/nb]
Yeah...they're invasive alright. ; There are a few dozen of them hanging around the rim of my pool all summer long, singing away like a dozen Barry Whites trying to find the ladies. ; They don't run from predators either...they just sit there and let silly dogs or cats give them a bite. ; They secrete a lovely toxic cocktail which the attacker gets in its mouth, then the bufertin high sets in, the dog or cat goes on an acid trip, and if they survive, they pretty much know not to mess with bufo toads anymore! I like horned toads...had them out in California. ; They're fun to chase. ; Haven't heard many A&M jokes since my roommate in college (who was from Texas, and whose family went to another school not to be named).
