i'm heading to orlando next year and i'm torn on which camera to take. usually i take my bridge camera and all on my past shots have been with a simple fuji bridge 5mp with a 15x zoom so i'm deciding to use my fuji finepix s8000 with 8mp and 18x zoom or my canon 400d ( 18-55 kit lens or a standard sigma 18-200mm zoom) i may be able to get another lens if it's cheap but sadly i couldn't go nuts with this stuff so which do you guys think. i don't want to be lugging around a full kit as it's my hols as well ;D
If you really feel the need to get another lens and don't want to spend a lot go for the nifty 50 (50 mm f/1.8 ). Its great for rides! I took these with that lens!
I would agree, I took my Rebel XT with that lens a few trips back, and had some great results, and it wasn't a lot to carry all day.
Thanks Tim! Those were actually from a year ago. This year I decided to lay off the ride shots (except for a few pictures of the screens on SSE) and focus mostly on Christmas. But if you mean hangin with the big boys by telling people to buy MORE stuff. Im right there! ; Last night I was walking around the house with my Lowepro Slingshot AW 200 fully loaded with my Luxi-F strapped to the back trying to test out the weight. I think you would have been proud! ;
I also agree with the 18-200. ; On our last trip I used this lens (Nikon version but still the same) almost always. ; The 50mm and the 70-200 would come out on occasion but most were with the general purpose. ; As far as the "testing" weight thing. ; I think it is a good idea to wear the back pack around the house or on walks, trips to the mall, etc. ; I know it looks dorky but it sure got me used to carrying that much weight for longer periods of time. ; My bag is quite heavy and if anything it "work hardened" me with that much weight. ; This is actually a common method for production plants to get the workers used to a process before production begins. ; Good luck and hope to see some images. ; It is always worth it.
cheers guys, i was looking at the 50mm, it's still a little pricey the cheapest is around £350/$600. so it may take a bit of thinking lol i was learning towards the 400d with the 18-200, sadly the 18-200 is the basic version so there is no vr or anything, but it hasn't let me down yet. now i wonder if there are any decent camera shops around the main area(kissimmee) in orlando. any recomdations
cheers guys, i'll have a hunt. is there any major difference between the 1.8 and 1.4 besides the price
The 1.8 has a plastic lens mount, and uses an arc form drive motor rather than USM. ; It's noisier during focusing. The 1.8 does not have internal focus, so the front element rotates during focusing.
I'll toss in another vote for the 400D and the Sigma 18-200 lens as your walkaround kit. It would not be a bad idea to pack your bridge camera as well, for those times when you want a lighter kit for less intense photography, such as resort dinners. My own WDW pics have been taken exclusively with my 300D and Sigma 180-125 lens for the last 5 years, and while that combination is decidedly inferior to the double-digit and single-digit cameras and the higher-end glass that seems to permeate TMIP, it is still a usable and versatile setup, and is light enough to be convenient for all-day carry on a week-long stay.
cheers guys, i think i'll pick that lens up, i'm not heading till September so i have a bit of time, my first thing is a battery grip for the 400d, just to give it that extra just encase
