Just pulled the trigger on the Sigma 50-500 OS lens. ; After researching it further and seeing some sample images, I could not pass this one up. ; The samples that I saw are quite sharp. ; I will post a full review with samples once I get the lens from ups. ; For more information, CLICK HERE. ; Available from B&H in canon and nikon mounts. ;
Tim's new walk around lens! NOT!!! I used to have that kind of money. Then we bought BLT LOL. Considering buying DVC while at Disney is very dangerous!
Yes it is large and a bit on the heavy side but the range and IQ that I have seen in samples is mind-numbing. ; 95mm front filter size is kuh-ray-zee. A uv filter for that size is about $135. Yipes!
Congrats on the large lens there Tim. I was actually looking at Sigma lenses the other day for my D90. I was looking at the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. It's only $900! The Nikon and Canon equivilents are $1,900. So my question is, have you heard anything good or bad about this lens? Congrats again and can't wait to see what you capture with it.
No problem on carrying those around...you just develop techniques! ; I walk 10+ miles at a time out in the wetlands when I'm wildlife shooting with this: [attachimg=1] It's a bit lighter than the Sigma Tim just picked up - the Tamron 200-500 is about 3lbs vs 4.3lbs...and a wee bit longer than the Sigma. ; With the hood on, and fully zoomed, it's nearly 3 feet long. I find carrying the lens mounted to a monopod or tripod, and the lens slung over one shoulder (wrapping the neck strap around my wrist for safety), I can walk all day, and have the camera down and pointed in seconds when needed.
Tim, you must have lived like no one else so that now you can live like no one else. ; That looks impressive. ; Congrats!
Wait until you see your Siggy, Tim. ; Stick that lens hood on it, and zoom all the way to 500mm...then watch where you swing it around or you'll knock over lamps! Lots and lots of fun though when you can get up close to wildlife, and count the hairs or feathers from 40 feet. ; I nabbed this guy last weekend in the wetlands, from 250mm: Then decided to see what I'd get at 500mm: Neither of those is cropped - I got within about 10 feet of the bird, plus all the zoom...I could crop in on just the eyeball and still make a print (though that would be one creepy print). LOVE the super telephotos!
Congrats Tim! Do I see anew article in the future? "Using your super zoom in the parks without attracting too much attention. Erich
I'd be interested in that article. ; I haven't had the courage to bring my big lens into the parks yet. ; The closest my 200-500 ever got was the hotel balcony.
now you can join me at the wildlife sanctuary Tim. I am still waiting for clear weather to try the tammy on the D90
