I purchased Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3 in an effort to learn some new tricks and simplify my workflow and, after completing Lesson #1, I am blown away. He writes the book as 20 lessons which all use the same basic 7 steps and he only teaches you those steps, nothing else. He also gives you the original files to work on as you follow in the book. No learning how to make gold text, no bells/whistles, nothing but how to fix photos. You NEED to get this book. NOW! $29.95 at B&H.
(It also works for CS4, as the tools and layouts are the same. It may even work for previous versions, but I am not sure.)

Lesson #1 - Photo by Scott Kelby, used for illustration purposes only.

Here is my first attempt at using Lesson #1 on a Disney photo...
I still have work to do and lots to learn but off to a good start, methinks.

Thanks for posting. That looks like a book I could really use. Great way to learn the basics to CS4.

i know i've mentioned this before but i think it stands true
scott kelby is that most rare of teachers, he's got an intuitive grasp on how to lay out his books, they are so easy and logical to follow along that after awhile you go DOH, why didn't i think of that, and iv'e read a lot of photoshop books, virtually anything i could get through our very good local public library, but his books make it so workable to me, his books truly are amazing, they remove any argument anyone can make against shooting raw, with the exception of " i have no time to post process"
    just my opinion folks

the 7-point book is an exception to his normal teaching style, by his own admission. most of his books are "jump in anywhere" but this one uses the same steps over and over on sample images so it behooves the reader to go in order. i love his style of writing and try to host my meets in the same vein.

Here is another example of why I love this book so much... Rivers of America, between TSI and BTMRR.

Having had several classes with Scott Kelby and having attended Photoshop World, I can also agree that he is a fantastically intuitive teacher with a gift for communicating. Any book by Scott Kelby is a bargain. Any book.

Wow, I am really impressed. I just checked, and the Indianapolis library system has this book, so it looks like I'll be learning these techniques this summer!

Are the instructions specific to Photoshop, or are they generic enough to be used with similar editors like [blue]GIMP[/blue]?

Considering the full title of the book is: Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3, I'm guessing it's Photoshop specific
