Saratoga Race Course 2016

I am in between sports seasons so what do I do? I go photograph sports. :D

In between Race 4 and Race 5 at the Saratoga Race Course last weekend, it poured, thundered and lightninged. Delaying Race 5 for 30 minutes and soaking the track. Then the Sun came out and I quickly moved down to the rail to catch the horses as they would round turn 4 and head down towards the finish line.

if you ever wondered what they mean by a sloppy track, this is what it looks like.

I am totally smitten by the D500. I shot thousands of images this summer covering baseball. Even using the old 80-400VR AF lens, it rocked. I have no issue shooting it up to 6400 ISO which is easily cleaned up in LIghtroom. Beyond that it needs better tools to clean up. Can not wait to see how it does for hockey.

The 10fps is allowing me to get more keepers for sure. The change in button locations took a little getting used to but all in all, I've adjusted. The new extremely fast memory cards and larger buffer mean I never have to wait for the images to load.

I will get out during the Fall migration soon to get some of my own BIF images. Right now, the old 80-400 is the weak link. I will get the the AF-S version next year. Had to replace my 70-200 earlier this year so my lens budget has been spent.
