Sony looks like they'll have video on a FF, similar body to the A900. Canon's 7D seems to be leaking now, could be a prosumer priced FF aimed right at the D700 - there are two sets of specs coming out - one would be the old 5D sensor basically (updated), the other is around the old 1Ds MkII sensor size (updated).... ; and a popup flash.
There's some floating rumors around Sony land too that a new camera is coming soon to replace the A700, with a 12-14mp sensor, most of the A700's specs improved a bit, a tilt LCD, and video. ; That would be more exciting news for me than a FF since it would give me a nice upgrade path for my A300 which'll be going on 2 years old - I may hold on a little longer, but I've pretty well decided I've filled in all my lens needs for the time being, and a new body would be the most likely upgrade next.
I forgot - all of the new Alphas from now on are going to have the Exmor R sensor, which is kind of where technology has to go - now if only someone would buy up Foveon and work on updating their sensor technology!
It'll be interesting to see if they do bring the Exmor R to DSLR - since it was specifically developed to gain an advantage on tiny sensors to pull in more light per pixel. ; DSLR sensors are so much larger that they don't have anywhere near the same challenge...but even if it it just an incremental effect, every little bit helps - and if it can gain 1/2 stop sensitivity, it'll be a nice move forward. ; The A700 sensor actually is very good - better than originally thought after Sony released firmware for the jpeg engine and backed off the RAW noise reduction they had snuck in there originally. ; A recent DSLR shootout actually ranked A700 best over the D300, 50D, K7, and E30...specifically in high ISO noise control and detail retention. ; Sony just needs to get better with their processing engine - Nikon has been bettering Sony using Sony's sensors, just because of better processing engines. ; Firmware helped the A700...so maybe the next gen will be a class leader.
7D news is interesting since it hasn't been that long since the 5d MkII came out has it? ; Also curious there is no 6D, can't keep track of there naming scheme! ; I'm not $ready$ for a full frame yet, but its good to see putting alternatives out there.
I'm sure that Sony will put the Exmor R on an Alpha. ; There is no reason not to since the sensitivity of that sensor will be incredible. Paul, I think they chose that number because I think they still have a plan to release a 3D in the old EOS-3 body, people have been wanting a return of the EOS-3 for years. (3D would have pro level AF, 99% viewfinder, at least 5 fps, full frame, etc. ; eye control opt.)
