With the beginning of Daylight Saving Time last night comes the twice-yearly ritual of changing out the batteries in our smoke, CO2, and radon detectors.

Even if these batteries still read out as being "good" on a battery detector, it's wise to put in fresh ones at the beginning and end of DST every year, so you'll never run the risk of having a low battery in your lifesaving gear.

If you have any emergency flashlights, weather radios, or other battery-powered stuff in your household emergency/disaster kits, now is the time to put fresh batteries in those puppies, too.

Don't forget to add a piece of masking tape or a label to the new battery with the date, so you'll know when it was last replaced.

    Stay safe everyone!
