Please check out this link for the Pixelmania 2012 Schedule... http://www.themagicinpixels.com/2012/11/pixelmania-2012-schedule/ As before, we will be communicating via Twitter and text message to keep everyone informed as to changes to the schedule as they arise and for new stuff as it pops up. ; Like in the past, you can follow TMIP_Pixelmania on Twitter to receive updates as they happen, or you can text FOLLOW TMIP_Pixelmania to 40404 to receive text message updates from the same Twitter feed as opposed to Twitter updates. ; To stop the updates, send two STOP messages to 40404. According to Touringplans.com, WDW has increased the park hours on a few days during Pixelmania. ; Unfortunately, none of the changes affect the Park Of The Day. ; However, they did add an 8 pm Fantasmic show on Dec. 9, so that may draw some of the crowd away from our Osborne Lights meet.
Dec 8? ; Would that be after some nighttime shooting at DAK? ; I am all for it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My mistake. ; I meant to say Dec. 9. ; (But they did add a second Fantasmic on Dec. 8 as well.) ; I've corrected my post.
A few questions from a newbie: The listing for the Wild Africa Trek states "signed up attendees only". Is that the Pixelmania sign up or do you have to sign up for that separately? Is there a problem if you bring a tripod to any of the parks? What do you do with your camera gear when you're on the more physically challenging rides?
There was a separate thread for Wild Africa Trek signups. ; Unfortunately, the tour is currently sold out, but you could post your name on that thread in case there's a late cancellation. We've never had any problems with tripods in the parks, other than people trying to hand us their Photopass cards. The biggest problem with rides at Pixelmania is the sheer quantity of gear that some of us have. ; Frequently, there is someone who volunteers to sit outside with the gear while the rest of us ride. ; But you should note that, while we do some of the rides, they're mostly the slower, photography-friendly ones.
I've never had a problem with tripods in the parks either. ; If you don't want to carry yours around all day and it won't fit in a locker, the folks at the locker rental location will give you a claim ticket to put on the tripod and will then store it for you.
Thanks to you both for the info. I put my name on the Trek page in case there's a cancellation. Is there anything else on the schedule that requires a separate sign up? I've tried following the threads on Twitter and Tapatalk but I never came across the Trek thread until you mentioned it now. I don't spend a lot of time on Social sites so I'm not the most adept at navigating them.
There is also a thread here for the Candlelight Processional. ; I organized a reservation for 14 at Le Cellier here: http://www.themagicinpixels.com/forum/pixelmania/pm2k12_le_cellier_candlelight_processional_diningfriday_127_1130am_full_9324.0.html The list is currently full, but one spot may become available in the next couple of days. ; Dining is not required to see the Processional, but it does get you preferred seating (meaning it gets you in before the people in the standby line). If the spot at Le Cellier doesn't open up or if you prefer another restaurant, feel free to make a separate Candlelight Processional Dining Package reservation, but make sure to book one of the lunch packages to get seating at the 5:00pm show.
Three suggestions for the tripod: 1 - Leave it in the car until its time for fireworks. 2 - Locker. ; Take the head off if it wont fit. 3 - Gorillapod. Stays in your bag all day. Or Superclamp/Ballhead. Now what do I do when it comes to gear and rides? ; Well I just don't ride them. ; I generally bring in only what I need (2 cameras, 2 lenses usually) or one camera and a small bag that I can quickly work out of that carries the basic camera, couple lenses, flash, ttl cord, holga & more film. ; The bag stays with me and is generally small enough to go on most rides with me. ; I prefer to travel light as a crapload of gear tends to interfere with how I work. ; The extra stuff is usually in a locked case in the trunk that is itself chained to the car. Added Bonus? ; Security never stops me and asks what I'm up to.
Bad news: ; The Christmas Parade taping is Nov. 30/Dec. 1, not during Pixelmania. ; The tree will be in Town Square and the garlands will be hanging across Main Street, so we may need to reconsider our location for Wishes.
Note: shooting wishes- last year I was exiting on our last night- wasnt supposed to be there that late- and couldnt leave the park- I turned around to face the tree and the fireworks were centered behind it- you could Not see the castle- but they turned out to be some of my most favorite- why didnt I think of that before now shots....for those of you who can tear yourselves away from the castle shots...it goes against every bone in my body to not see the castle-(but something different). Prime shooting spot is very small though- lol to be perfectly centered on the tree- so ya'll may want to flip a coin.... Just saying.... Peg
I am thinking the tree wont go up until after this weekend with the taping of the Christmas Parade for ABC. ;
The taping of the parade is this weekend. ; So if the tree goes up after taping then it will be up for PM2K12. Sent from my iPhone...
