The statement about trying to cut the budget worries me a little. ; Personally, I'd rather leave the series with 3 movies than create a 4th at lesser quality for budget concerns.
I also feel they should probably stop with 3, but I think another reason they don't want to include Orlando and Kiera is because they want to focus on Jack Sparrow's other exploits.
If they did that, I'd probably be ok with it. ; Its the budget cutting that scares me because the computer graphics in those movies was awesome, but very expensive which makes the CG a prime target for cutbacks too.
I wouldn't mind if the next movie focused on Jack more. I find the whole Will and Elizabeth relationship tedious now. I would love to see more on Jack and Barbosa. even a prequel would be good, just keep George Lucas away....
I agree with Craig on this Barbossa and Jack seem the way to go, Elizabeth and Will have run there coarse
I like the idea of a budget cut. ; I think the story suffered at the expense of "cool special effects" in the second and third installments. ; Maybe having a tighter budget would make them go lighter the special effects to times when they weren't merely superfluous. ; I also agree that Will and Elizabeth ran their course as characters.
I agree with Craig on the Barbossa-Jack thing...and the Prequel idea sounds like a great idea, as it brings back the entire Black Pearl gang. I also agree that the special effects, and the general 'turn-it-up-to-11' action, took a little away from the 2nd, and moreso the 3rd, installment. ; #1 was in so many respects a perfect film - great effects but not too much, great acting, fun, family friendly, solid action but with a story. ; I still enjoyed all three of the films, but I'd say each one dropped a notch under the one before it. ; I'd love to see 4 get leaner and more focused and get back some of the charm of the first one.
Just remember that Jerry Bruckheimer is behind this franchise. ; I don't think the man knows how to do anything but try to one-up his previous venture in special effects. ;
Plus Disney has already put out a bunch of books aimed at teenage boys telling the entire back story of Jack and how he and Barbosa crossed paths
