I was cruising http://photojojo.com after getting an e-mail from them and found this little device interesting. I am not sure I would get one, but it does seem interesting and its inexpensive. It's called Perfect Pano. http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/perfect-pano The other thing I was noticing when following a few links was the Level Camera Cube http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/level-camera-cube I have been meaning to buy one these for a long time and never get around to it. The leveling bubble on my tripod is inconveniently located and impossible to see at night.
Interesting little device... My main question would be: ; wouldn't it work best if the tripod mount is lined up with the center of the sensor at the sensor plane? ; The more expensive pano shots do that- where you can move the camera to be right over the center so the focal plane is the center for pano shots. Yes, that's more expensive, and probably more than what most people need, which would be this device.
Roger I think you are correct. By looking at the photos of this device in use, I think it is mainly aimed at point and shoot consumers. Lightweight users. ;
Yeah, it looks way to lightweight to use with a DLSR. ; It sounds like the camera mount on the perfect pano rotates, so you wouldn't need to rotate the tripod head. ; If that's the case, the offset for the bubble level doesn't matter. ; In case anyone is reading and is curious about why you would want to shift the camera so the optical center of the lens is over the rotation point for pano's, here's a little explanation: http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/pano/03.html
Ok, forgive me for being slightly naive, but what exactly is the purpose to the camera cube? ; I get for leveling, but where can it be of good use?
I can be useful when using a tripod without a bubble level on it. Sure you can edit and crop in photoshop, but why not start out as close as possible. My camera also shoots video and again I fix it in Final Cut, but I will lose a little of the frame so I want to level it at the time I shoot. Just my 2¢
Ah, ok I get it. ; My tripod, although not the TMIP one, does have a few levels on it, so the need doesn't really exist. ; Thanks for the explanation.
