short eared owl on the hunt. I used a tamron 70-300 vc lens as my big tammy(200-500) is in for repairs. I miss it already. had to do a lot of cropping on these

Love em Howie, especially the first one, it gives me hope that I may get some shots with my 55-300!

Howie, thinking I need to make a winter trip down to the refugee. ; Your shots are excellent. ; Can't wait to head out to Montezuma as soon as the snow melts and they open the wildlife drive. ; Going to need a lot of practice before joining you at Forsythe!

thanks John. these are cropped a lot. a northern harrier came in close enough to fill the frame but it was back lit by the sun.
the hawks are coming in closer now. here are 2 things I never saw at forsythe before. a lot of cropping with these also

thanks Scott. if it wasn't for all the cropping they would be so much sharper. about another 10 days till my big lens is back.
oh that bites having your place closed. they closed forsythe for a week after heavy snow and I went crazy waiting for it to open as I am there atleast 4 or 5 days a week. this is my first winter at forsythe as I hate cold weather but I learned that all the hawks and eagles and owls are only there in the winter so I had to man up and get out there. I am preparing for next winter by going to khols and getting winter gear on sale

Yeah, it's a bummer but I should be able to get out there by mid-March. ; Let's see, looks like an otter there. ; Too skinny for a muskrat.

Syracuse used to have a squadron of the A-10 Thunderbolts before switching to F-16s and now flying drones.

I looked up the short eared owl's wingspan. ; It can be as long as 3 and a half feet. ; That is darn big for the body size of this guy/gal.

didn't know that. they don't seem to have that big of a span and there body certainly isn't that big but then again they don't come very close so it's hard to tell
