Ok, so I am looking for information for my brother, and have already told him to go and hold each of the cameras, but he is still wondering which way to go. I am looking for info on Nikon's D60, and the comparable Canon. I know that this is an age old question, but I am really looking for info from those that have used the D60, and what your real thoughts are on this. at any rate he wants to spend about $700 and of course would need a lens so a kit would be the best place for him to start. Thanks for the info.

i would be careful with the d60 because some lenses will not autofocus because they do not have an autofocus motor.

    b&h has a kit with 18-55 and 55-200 lens for 662.95 - CLICK HERE

the comparable canon would be the rebel xsi. $699.95. CLICK HERE

Thanks, I thought I remembered something about the D60 but I couldn't remember what it was. I almost thought I was confusing it with something else.

I wouldnt worry too much about the d60 not focusing older lenses. Nikon and alll the third parties seem to be fully supporting this situation.
Even the new nikon 35 1.8 focuses on the d60!

That seems like a really good price for the d60 that tim linked too!

Hmm, for what it's worth...i'd wait on getting either the D40 or D60. From all indications it seems that Nikon will intro a new D5000 to replace one or the other (I believe Roger already posted on this.)

    Quick highlights:
    Near D90 like image quality
    More then 3 focus points
    NICE 3" LCD
    3FPS

I say wait because the prices on the D40/60 will fall even more - or, if you're like me - you'd want the newer, no less shiny toy.
