Well, I'm glad they're doing this, and doing it for so long.[nb]How many months until the movie comes out????[/nb] ; Bob Iger mentioned that they really want this franchise to be successful for the company. ; So maybe they'll bring back the TRON tunnel!

I rigged it just to irritate you, Roger. :)

But seriously, it's workin' for me.

ps...thanks for posting that. ; Sometimes I get dragged kicking and screaming to the boys movies and sometimes I go willingly. ; I go willingly for this one.:)

I see it now, after I just pasted the link in the main window...without using the YouTube button.

I guess I will be the lone voice of dissent here. Not only do I think they're ugly, I think they're inappropriate for something that I would consider to be sacred (as far as WDW goes). I would expect to see this on the local mass transit system, not at WDW.

I know Disney cross-promotes its products, but save that for something more innocuous. What's next, having a big Miley Cyrus poster hanging from the top spire of Cinderella Castle or a big Wand stating "Jonas Brothers" above SpaceShip Earth? What I mean is that I understand advertising is going to occur at WDW. ; There are some things I view as untouchable; the monorails are one such thing (and I know they've put those balloons and YOMD crap on them in the past...I didn't like that either, and that was to a much lesser extent).

As for Tron: Legacy itself, I'm betting there's fear that it will be a huge bust (which might have prompted this ad campaign). $300 million budget for a sequel to a twenty year old campy computer movie with only a cult following? I'm sure some executives are a little concerned about that...

    I'll join Tom's dissent. ; I didn't mind the YOMD stuff as much since it was much more tastefully done, but this is just plain ugly. ;

Fortunately for me, I don't believe in sacred. ; I think it's awesome and compared so some of the really bad movie promotions I've seen in the Park (I was at DL during their big Treasure Planet blitz), this is pretty tasteful and fitting. ; I mean, the monorail just screams for a lightcycle overlay.

Now, I was very much alive during the initial release of Tron on the theaters and saw it multiple times. ; I remember it being very popular among my peer group and we wore it out on VCR when it came out.

I remember reading on many movie-based rumor sites that many insiders and talking heads were absolutely sure Avatar was going to a colossal failure and while James Cameron's ex-wife did better as the Oscar's he did well at the box office.

With Jeff Bridges coming off a big Oscar win, that may be enough synergy to get some eyes on the film that would've have previously.

Also, movies like Batman and the relaunch of the Star Trek franchise have shown it isn't wise to ignore the power of the fanboy especially if there is a good script

I'm with Tom and Michael. Don't like. What next, cover SSE with an ad for John Carter from Mars? The castle with an ad for Tangled? The BAH with an ad for The Sorcerer's Apprentice? No thanks.

I like it, but I agree with Tom and Michael in principle. ; I just think there are a few rare exceptions where it goes beyond advertising, and becomes a direct 'Disney' movie theme. ; The Nemo monorail was 'cute' the first time you saw it...but it didn't really tie into the movie theme. ; Monorails, those futuristic railed conveyances, are just so unbelievably obvious and well tied to the light-track racer bikes from the movie that I don't see it as just advertising. ; I see it as theming. ; I'd probably be against just about any other type of advertising on the monorails...but this one just works for me.

BTW - Tron wasn't 20 years ago...it was nearly 30 years ago! ; Feel older now, those of us who remembered actually seeing it in the theaters? ; :)

Uhh, the Disneyland one? ; That was for a new ride. ; And it only lasted for a summer, not for 9 months (at least!).

But don't forget, TRON was part of Disneyland.

Yeah...I know it was for the ride - it just didn't have a thematic tie-in for me. ; You know - futuristic mass transit rail system / submarine ride about fish = no link. ; Versus: futuristic mass transit rail system / futuristic light rail guided bikes = link! ; At least for me.

And I wish we had the Tron tunnel on our side...it sounded very cool and I remember being jealous of it when I heard about it. ; I missed it at Disneyland.

I saw the preview for this before Alice in Wonderland this past weekend, and my 6 y/o son and I are already planning one of our "dudes nights" to go and see it. ; It looks amazing.

What are they going to do next? Make the castle look like a cake or something for the 40th next year?! (oh, wait...)

I like that they've tried something new. I can't help but wonder, however, if it may be a precursor to perhaps changing all the monorails in the wake of the accident last summer. Something to move away from the 'color' identification system.

    Eh, no.

Look at the new monorails at Disneyland. ; Therein lies the future of whenever WDW needs to add a new one...... ; Disneyland colored over the old one to make the Submarine makeover. ; They have never colored over the new retro ones.

Hopefully Disney will know when to draw the line; hopefully there will be no intrusion inside the monorails with posters, audio commercials, etc. ; I don't recall seeing this yet other than park information.

I think the point to the entire thing here is simply this, if these were the monorails that were circling the Seven Seas Lagoon, I think it might bother me a little. ; Since these are only going to be on the monorails on the Epcot loop, I have no problem with it at all. ; I mean the whole purpose of Future World is about things in the future, and this movie is a futuristic look at video games technology to a certain extent. ; I think it is fine, and actually I think it is great. ; Just my .02 cents on it.
