I tried a new sharpening technique using channels. Can anyone see the difference between using unsharp mask and the new tech?

i have not tried sharpening on the channels but i have seen a technique in which you sharpen in lab color. if you do it right it tends to not create halos in areas of high contrast. to answer your question, the bottom image looks sharper but you have a minor degree of color shift (less saturation).

I tried a plugin called nik sharpener pro and I need to save for it as it aint cheap. $329 but it is without a doubt the best program for sharpening for printing I have seen. There is a display sharpening too but it shines for printing. A friend uses it and the results are amazing

This was sharpened by first copying the pic to a new alpha channel they used the find edge filter. I then used the levels command to bring out the most prominent edges, loaded the channel as a selection, inverted the selection and then used unsharp mask to sharpen. Got this from Scott Kelby's book on channels.

i second howie's love of nik sharpener pro. awesome plugin that i use all the time.

yes, one thing that nik sharpener pro is not is cheap.
