I don't get this one. The 18-200VR is the same speed and more range. I guess this one will be sharper at 105mm? I'd get the D90 body and go with the wider zoom. But that's just me.
I doubt it will be sharper at the end of it's range- that is where they tend to be softest. Should be cheaper than the 18-200 and maybe less distortion on the wide end? (6x zoom vs. 11x zoom)
I think this lens is to fill the gap in their DX lineup (and much cheaper than the 18-200!) B&H is selling the D90 kit for $1300, body only for $1000. The 18-200 is $670 from B&H. So, yeah it's cheaper.
If it is in the $300 range I will pick one up for my daughters D40 and sell her 18-70 and 18-135 both.
Well, if Nikon's recent history repeats itself, you should be able to pick the lens up by itself for around $260, since it will be more expensive in the kit. Or you can wait and see if lensrentals sells any off. I'm sure Roger will be ordering a few D90s because of the movie mode....unless, that is, the D3x has a movie mode as well. (Which btw I'm wondering if we are seeing a cat and mouse game here. Canon only released 1, now Nikon has only released 1. I'm beginning to wonder if Canon's MkIV will be released earlier than usual.....)
