sold the 28-135 , purchased the 70-30 f/4-5.6 IS USM, this will be going to europe with me in may, i had rented this for mousefest wanted to try IS in the safari truck, i was favorably impressed, both with image quality, weight and ease of use, and it's not white, only knock against taking my beloved 70-200 f/4 with 1.4 tc, i hadn't used the 28-135 in a year or more, and the new lens has 3rd gen IS

med cruise kit now pretty much set
    rebel xti
    10-22 ef-s
    17-55 ef-s IS
    70-300 IS
a couple of batteries, charger, microfiber cloth, manual, about 40 or more gig in flash cards

velbon tripod may or may not make trip, still waiting to hear from dcl with the flight details, that'll be the determining factor if i go all carryone or check a bag

clearing some confusion, i never check the photo gear, except the tripod, securely wrapped in the clothing, i meant if i go carryone for clothing also or if i check a medium roller then i'll of course bring the tripod
i really don't know if spousal unit is willing to pack the tripod all around barcelona and shore excursions, i carry the camera bag, there really are only a few situations for night landscape work where i'd need it, but it could enable some stunning night city lights type work
and before i get reamed, karen volunteers to carry the tripod bag, it's actually quite light and comfortable
this is dependaent on flight info, i doubt very much we'll have a direct flight jfk to barcelona, there are not many, probably to heathrow or madrid, maybe frankfurt or zurich, then on to barcelona
one of the mei travel agents going on same cruise goes seattle to heathrow, then has 8 hr layover until 2 hr barcelona flight
i really doubt we'll be that long, but net research looks like at least 2 hr layover if heathrow or madrid, shows flights to barcelona about every 2 hrs starting 0930 their time, which means 8-9 pm departure jfk to make first up am connection, i get a little nervous about checked bags with connections, we've had bags go orlando to baltimore when we were doing direct flights to ny, never mind connections
