been trying out a friends lens. the Nikon 300mm F4 AF-S lens and really like it. very sharp. Well he bought the Nikon 300 F2.8 so I bought his 300 f4 today.
Wow! ; That's awesome! ; Now you will have to decide if the length or speed is more important in you shooting! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I will get a tele converter next. I tried it with the 1.4 which will makes the lens 630mm at f 5.6. I tried it with the 1.7 which makes it 765 mm at f 6.7. I like it with the 1.4 more
thanks. may order the kenko 1.4 tele converter and see how it works. 1/2 the price of the Nikon and if not will send it back and save for the nikon version
Congrats - if it's anywhere near as good as my 300mm F4 has been, it should thrill you! ; And I agree with the TC summary - I find mine responds gorgeously to the 1.4x TC, with no noticeable loss in detail, whereas the 1.7x and 2x you can just see a slight dropoff in detail when pixel peeping. Have fun with it!
The 300/4 is a sweet lens. ; I sold mine a couple years ago because the rumor was a VR version was "about to be released."
Justin it is so sharp and I did try it with the Nikon 1.7 and except for now being maximum f stop of 6.7 it was still pretty sharp. Jeff VR would be sweet on it for sure
Yeah the 300/4 is AFS w/o VR and the 80-400 is VR w/o AFS. ; Of cours once the two of them are updated they will probably be $2k each. Enjoy your new lens.
thanks. oh yea you can bet on a big price increase for VR or AF-S. My tamron 70-300 f4-f 5.6 has it all and was 300 bucks. Nikon version is 220 more and the tamron is rated sharper. Luminous Landscape is giving the tamron away as a contest prize. makes ya wonder sometimes
There are times I am very happy I've got the stabilization in the camera body, so all of my lenses can benefit. ; Great when buying 25-year-old 300mm F4 lenses that didn't have such a thing back then!
