At the urging of Scottwdw, I decided to stop & take a few shots up & down the Bayou while I was out on the road today. I only had my point & shoot in the truck to take these photos. It was a very hot day & the sun was very bright. But, it was a beautiful day anyways. Decided to start out with one of my son just relaxing under the shade of a Cypress tree along the bayou side. Here are a couple of the Shrimp Boats tied up to the docks along the bayou. At this time of year, alot of these boat owners are getting their boats for the next season which is in August, which is why you see the painting going on this boat. Here is a couple of what we call a Pontoon (floating) Bridge. These used to be the only kind of bridge you could find here in South Lafourche Parish. Over the years they have started disappearing as they are being replaced by more modern bridges. There are only two like this one left in the area. Here are several more Shrimp Boats lined up at the docks waiting for the start of the new season. They come in all sizes. The vegetation is very lush all along the banks of the bayou. My son loves to hang out along the bayou when time permits. Just a few more random shots of structures & a house boat.
Very cool...and brings back memories too! Nice to see how your area's doing - and good to know it mostly looks the same as 18 years or so ago when I was last there. I was worried about how everything from erosion, hurricanes, population increases, etc were going to affect the bayou regions' history and culture and feel. I know some of the eastern parishes were pretty torn up in Katrina, and the western ones in Rita - looks like you guys were sort of in between the worst of those two storms!
Now, that's a houseboat. The shrimp boats look ready to rock. You should try and get them in the early morning or around sunset sometime. Thank you for heading out and sharing where you live.
