Is this where photography is heading?

I've read rumors about Canon, in an effort to save face with the MkIII debacle, will release the MkIV ahead of "schedule", and that the biggest change is that LiveView will have autofocus, and will be able to record HD video. This way, a photojournalist will be able to record digital video or very high resolution stills while out in the field with one camera, and then be able to upload them quickly via wireless. (Note that Sony's A700 and the new Nikons have HDMI connectors now)

Casio seems to already be there, with a 6MP digital camera (that looks familiar) that can also take HD video. While P&S already are doing this, this is (I think) the first dSLR-wannabe camera that has done this.

Are we almost to the point that there is no longer an attempt for a jack-of-all-trades camera?

i.e.: Nikon D3 is for PJ/Sports, the D3x (to be released at Photokina) for portrait/landscape
Canon 1DMkIV for PJ/Sports, 1DsMkIII for Portraits, 3D/7D for landscape
    Sony A900 for ???
