Hi gang - just reading about Disney woes (see business news stories I've posted under news - adding to thread Sorcerer started), I'm certainly aware of other cut rates and promotions for cruise lines, other locales, etc. - but, while I have many clients that are looking for the bargain basement rates to 5* hotels, they really aren't getting much - at least when they want to travel. ; March break and Easter are still the busiest times right now, and while you can get some great deals (especially with cruises), the rates are all supply and demand driven - when folks have a set week off, they want to travel the most (like teachers at March break), and the rates oblige by jumping. ; Anyhoo - I'm reading lots of trade articles and news articles that despite the economy, folks are still travelling - they might cut out their morning Starbucks, but the family is still taking their annual vacation - to escape. ; My company is still seeing record breaking sales too (almost every day in January, we had over a million pounds of business sold) - people are just booking way later then they used to, waiting to see what will happen with their job/ with their family situation, and then they're saying "to heck with it - let's just go and get away". So - just wondering about the good folks here - how is the economy affecting your travel plans? ; Will you still go to Disney and other parts as planned this year? ; Do the great deals give you an incentive to travel more, or are you more inclined to stay put?
As much as the economy is a big worry for our family, we too are continueing with all of our up coming travel plans. ; Were headed to WDW ; (SSR & OKW) in August, WDW in Dec. (DVC not sure where yet), and our families biggie next April, DCL Transatlantic crossing to Barcelona.. The ; CDN$ is not doing well right now, but it is apparently doing better than most economist are predicting through this melt down. My philosphy is that my kids are only young once, so seize the moment with them on vacation, cause if you put it off for a year or two. ; They will be another year older and you may miss that opportunity! ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
No, the economy isn't slowing me down. What is slowing us down is my DW. ; She got a new right knee last Thursday and a new left knee on Tuesday. ; Her mobility will be limited for a few months. ; She had been doing very well until today. ; Lots of pain in the most recent replacement knee!!! ;
New Job. ; Less Pay. ; New Vacation Schedule! ; So, unfortunately less WDW! It's killing us!LOL We are going away to Turks and Caicos for March Break, since I had that booked last year and I couldn't get out of it! ; Would rather be going to WDW, but we'll settle!
nice consolation prize, though! ; Are you going to Beaches in Turks and Caicos? ; (I just booked a client's trip there....)
I don't know if it's the Economy that's affecting our travel pland but we cancelled our plan for the legends cruise because we couldn't get a decently priced direct flight and with only Air Canada flying to LA they hold a monopoly on flights to LA. But we have decided to go to WDW in October instead to see the Halloween decorations.
LOL! And you can't cancel those plans Carlos .... conversation from school hot lunch, last Friday: "Claire's mommy, when are YOU going back to Disney World?!" "We just got back Tyler." Brain clueing in ... "When are you going back Tyler?" "October" with a BIG grin. No getting out of that trip! ; ;D
Yes! ; Hopefully it is all that it's cracked up to be! ; I have a co-worker who went there a few years ago and says the place is top notch! ; I hope so! ; It'll be strange just laying on the beach!LOL Anything you may want to know? ; We'll be during March Break and more than willing to do some research!
Not really there are no direct flights to LA from Buffalo(My wife only fly's direct) Detroit is a bit far and still expensive. The worst of it is that West Jet cancelled direct flights to LA.
We had thought about Detroit but then with a 5 hour drive to get there and prices about $400 US is still a bit daunting if I was going by myself it wouldn't be a problem but with the family it's a bit harder. I think I'm going to save my Disneyland trip for next years Westfest.
School boards humming and hawing over starting dates for September is what's concerning me. We're booked at BWV until the 4th of September
Luckily, I don't have to worry about that this year! ; So when do you think they will decide whether the kidlets go back before or after?
Sure - have a fantastic time! ; It's a wonderful resort. ; If you don't mind, have a looksee how they are set up for wee kids, and whether it works well? Take care, Sheila
Well we are back! ; Talk about a "nothing but relax" vacation! ; It took us a few days to adjust to doing nothing!LOL The resort is great for families with little ones. ; Tweens and Teens, not so much! ; DD recommends that you travel with a group of friends/family. ; They were suppose to open a "Club" for the tweens and teens but management decided that they would keep it adult. ; But as it turned out, the teens took over anyways. ; The adults would only stay until about 11:00 p.m. and then would empty out! ; But the teens came on in and kept the place hoping. ; The DJ was awesome and without the "young adults" the place would have been a total waste! ; The food was edible and we got to know which places to stay away from. ; Unfortunately, had to suffer with some bad indegestion first!LOL ; The people who worked at the resort were wonderful and very friendly! ; Met a family who had two younger boys who said that they didn't enjoy the clubs and only went the one time. ; The kids that I saw in the clubs seems to be enjoying themselves but I guess it depends on the child. ; Funny thing, the father kept saying......"Disney would not do it this way!"LOL ; I guess once you are a Disney Fanatic...........I suggested that they try the Disney Cruise next time!LOL All in all, the resort was beautiful, the room spacious, the beach was awesome! ; It was a totally different type of vacation whereby you totally did nothing but relax! ; Would I recommend it, sure. ; Would we do it again, maybe in the distant future...........
As I noted in discussing my vacation plans in other threads, it's not slowing down my traveling. My girlfriend and I have already booked our trip to Japan, spreading out two weeks between Tokyo, Nikko (a mountain resort town which is to Tokyo as Banff is to Calgary), Kyoto and Nara. However, it's sort of a unique case in that I've been saving up for it for two years. While I was still working, I would always funnel a few hundred dollars off each paycheque into the fund as I could. Once I gave up that job and went off to work on my masters degree, any extra scholarship or bursary money I didn't need got put into that fund as well. Once it got down to making reservations for hotels and flights and things, I had about $6000 in there, and I was going to Japan come Hell or high water ^_^ With whatever money is left after that (I should still have about $2500 or so once my girlfriend pays down her share), I'm going to start building again in the hopes of taking my dad back home to Germany in about another two years. Then it might be an issue depending on what kind of job I can get and living expenses I have to incur. In the mean time, my girlfriend and I are doing more local traveling and taking more low-cost car trips to places within a day or two... Which is easy to be satisfied with when you live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains ^_^ ;
