I just do not get "Explore" at all! ; ??? And by the way- it irritates me that I even care or notice this- but what gives? ; I have pictures with 10x more views/favs/comments than some of my 'Explored' shots and they never make it. ; I realize that it's based on the pictures posted that day by everyone but still- it seems very erratic to say the least. ; Sometimes they show up on Explore months later- and with a number in the 30's- and I say how was this not in the top 500 yesterday and now it's 30-something how??? ; Anyone else find the whole thing puzzling?
Err no,....you see I'm thinking that they have the same mentality as Facebook. The programmers shall decide what you see. ; Based on some algorithm no one knows.
I don't get it either Jeff. I've posted what I consider to be some of my best shots daily since August, and only 3 of them have made Explore. And the other 26 photos of mine that have made it are good, but nowhere near as good as my newer photos. I kind of just stopped paying attention to it.
Exactly- My personal favorites (and what seem to be others favorites) don't make it- and some of the things that do- ugh. ; I think I just need to stop looking at it too.
Well, it matters that you post popular pictures, but it also matters that you juxtapose bad pictures with good ones. Post a picture you predict to be unpopular the same day you post a popular one. ; Explore makes you compete with yourself.
Since I don't explore EXPLORE a lot, is there a way to know that a miracle has occurred and one of my shots made it there?
Here are some tips: ; http://thomashawk.com/2006/02/top-10-ti ... on-on.html Others that I've found that work: 1) wait an hour or so to see if your picture is actually popular with others (sometimes what I think is great is not perceived as great to others), then: 2) post it on forums with a "clicking this picture takes you to its Flickr page..." line afterward. ; People will click through to download it, access EXIF, or for whatever reasons. 3) add it to a few groups that are relevant, but not to groups that are award-based. 4) don't post your other shots from that day to forums or blogs.
