I went to the Police / Elvis Costello concert Thursday night in Ottawa. WOW. ; I've been a Police fan since I was a kid and I discovered the "real" Elvis a few years ago. ; This show was excellent. ; If you've ever been a fan of either of these acts... GO!!!! I did notice that the average male hairline in the audience was suspiciously similar to mine!! ; :
As an ex-employee of CFNY (aka the Edge), both of these are a couple of my faves. I have seen the Police once (just prior to their break up) and Sting a couple of times. They are awesome. As for Elvis, I actually got to catch him at The Phoenix in an industry showcase. This small venue was an great place to see him. Sometimes I wish I still worked in Radio (if only for the perks).
I miss the old CFNY. I first heard the station when I was visiting T.O. back in the early 80's. The were playing all kinds of interesting and eclectic music. The radio stations in Montreal would sometimes push the envelope by playing London Calling and that was about it. Back to more Yes, Genesis and lots of progressive rock. Not much has changed in Montreal Radio. When I moved to the Toronto area in '86 CFNY was what I had my radio tuned to in my car and then later in my work vehicle.
I listened to CFNY when I first moved to Ontario. ; Well... I listened when I could get it. ; I was working in radio (county & elevator) when I lived in Belleville. ; It drove me to listen to CFNY and CFRB when I could get them. Sorcerer, were you in sales, promo or on-air? ;
I was just going to say "The Spirit of Radio" but you beat me to it ; '86 and CFNY was my high school years ... went to Western for University and signed many a petition to get the reception out in London. I used to make cassette copies of the radio ... announcers and all ... to play while away at school. Boy aren't we dating ourselves ; ;D
I worked in promo (CFNY Video Roadshow to be exact). In the early 90's I left to go to Energy 108 and produce Chris Sheppard's Pirate Radio show.
Maybe we need to start an ex-radio support section. I worked in radio in Nova Scotia, Belleville, Kitchener and a little freelance elsewhere.
