Going through some older pics...MK from Contemporary

I happened to be glancing through some older photo albums, and realized that going back to shots from 2000 - 2005, I had alot of stuff that was taken when I was really just learning to better use my cameras, and still before my post-processing days. I pretty much just used whatever came out of the camera.

I decided to go back and see if some of these older shots could be cleaned up or improved a bit now that I know how to post-process a bit more. This shot in particular I liked, because of the warm sunset colors and the misty fog hanging on the distant trees...but it was a little bit noisy in the skies, and a bit soft overall.

I just treated it to a minor dose of noise reduction, layered it for just a bit more contrast by blending in lighten mode, and hit it with some USM sharpening. It did improve it nicely...It's worth going through your archives photos to see what modern post-processing tools and your increased knowledge can do with these older shots!

I've learned more about metering properly, depth of field control, and composition that all might have helped the shot more when taken...but the end result I still like and it imrpoves on the original enough to make the processing worthwhile. I'll have to go back and play with more older photos when I have spare time.

Thank you. The shot was from March 2004...taken with my old 5MP Sony 717, and a 1.7x teleextender. It was a great sunset from up on the Contemporary roof, but I was still learning my photography a bit!
