my brother in law and family are starting to dispose of their mother's estate, and tonight at dinner he gave me this, it's a 16mm film, in the original can, "dream called epcot" it's so neat just to hold a piece of disney memorabilia such as this in my hands, i'd be afraid to play it without having someone knowledgible about older film asses it's condition to be reasonably sure it would not break on me from being brittle 1. Dude. Wow. If you youtube "1980 EPCOT Preview Film" you will be able to see a (frame jittery) preview of what you've got there, I think. That is awesome, if I had that in my hands I would be thinking about professional digitization. What an amazing find. Gratz!
That's really cool! You might see if NARA (the National Archives) has any suggestions about that film on their web site. Having it digitized would be incredibly awesome!
Neat! Is this the one where Walt is standing in front of the map and says the famous "EP-cot...Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow". I think that was from a film they showed the Disney execs showing them what they were planning. I just read a book called Realityland. If you want a good book about WDW read that book!
I can remember back in either 1980 or 1981, before Epcot opened, they had opened an Epcot Preview Center in the Magic Kingdom (in what is now Exposition Hall, and what had formerly been the 'Walt Disney Story' attraction). They showed a film called "Dream Called Epcot"...which I'm assuming is this! They later used the space as an MGM preview too. Very cool piece of Disney history!
