    Made a trip to Deep Cut Gardens here in NJ yesterday, spent about an hour and a half just playing around and trying different things. ; It was nice to be out taking photos with no schedule to pay attention to. ;

    I only wish that my focus was a little better, but I still liked the POV on this one.

    I was wondering if I should crop this one more and get rid of the trees and sky at the top, what do you think?

    Like the top one, and I agree with your intuition of cropping some of the trees off. ; In fact I would crop down to the flowers....

    Like your attempts, angles, compositions and your idea of cropping the second one to remove the trees and sky.

    You need to work on finding the hyperfocus points for your lenses. ; What apertures were these shot at?

    Thanks Roger and Scott! ;

    The first one shot at f/8 and the second one at f/13. ; Both were hand held since it was so bright. ; Ironically I was happy it was sunny, then las night while re-reading Kelby's first book, the first lesson on shooting flowers is pray for cloudy days!

    You were on the right track with the second shot at f/13. ; f/16 or f/22 would have helped both photos PLUS finding the hyperfocus spot so everything would be in focus from the bottom to the top of the frame.

    Re: Deep Cut Gardens - New Crop

    I am pretty sure I have an app for hyperfocus on my phone, suppose I should use it, eh? ; The funny thing is these two are shots I took as I arrived in the first 5 minutes of about an hour and a half.

    Here are two new crops of the second shot, not sure which one I like better.

    As I mentioned on flickr, the bottom flower being so big and out of focus is distracting. ; Now, if it was in focus along with the others, the bottom crop is much better than with the trees behind them.

    Yep, that guy in front out of focus is pretty bad, will have to revisit this one with this garden being only a 20 minute drive away.

    You can practice the hyperfocus technique on anything, John. ; You do it naturally with your DCL photos. I think you were just a bit too close for that flower.

    I love the first view of that tree. ; Fantastic sky on that one.

    Thanks Tim! ; I like that one better myself, I wish I had been there a few days earlier and maybe the second one would be better.
