This term was brought up in an Expedition Everest thread.. but before I could latch on to it the topic had gone back to actual pictures of Everest. I don't want to subvert the topic, so..

Here you go, the authoritative video on the subject of chimping:
    http://www.sportsshooter.com/special_fe ... index.html
Be sure to get part two as well, there's a little link that loads it up.

This is where I learned the term. I love it.. if nothing else you get to see many many thousands of dollars worth of DSLR equipment, including some very large lenses that I desire a great deal. I mean.. did you see how far back the tripod mount was on some of those monsters? Yes, I have extreme telephoto envy, we've covered that subject before.
It's also fun to get a peek into the world of professional photojournalists. Did you see the guy with a pig sticker on his control dial?

In recent memory I think there was ONE time where I actually made the chimp noise.. ya'know, "ooh oooh", in response to liking a picture I had just taken. It was not, as some in the video snobbishly suggest, an attempt to show off my masterpiece to others, I normally work alone and generally try to keep to myself. It was just that something happened.. I don't remember what, and through luck or talent I managed to get a good shot of it. I was very pleased.. and the sound just came out.
In truth.. I think that sounds more like a gorilla noise. But it just doesn't make as good a verb.. gorillaing.. no, that just doesn't work.

I was actually going to suggest this for the photographic terms dictionary.. but it didn't quite seem to belong there amidst the serious terms listings.

One more term though, "chimp screen". The screen you look at when chimping. I have seen it used in a camera review, they referred to the chimp screen instead of the LCD screen. In a sense there's a reason to differentiate it, since many cameras have two LCD screens. You've got your status screen.. and your chimp screen.

    ROFL!

I admit I've BTDT - especially during my hunt of the cardinal....(would have more pics but I'm trying to avoid taking my camera into 37 degree weather, condensation and all..until I go back to IKEA to make my dehumidification cabinet)

Doesn't that lady know that you are only allowed to use Canon at sporting events????? :p

At least I know which camera they used to make the fake 6D pic that's out there.

And that was a weightlifting pig.
